Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Skin starts to sag and wrinkle as we get less young, because the fat and the collagen diminish. Injecting dermal fillers, like hyaluronic acid, collagen, …, into the skin plumps it up, gives firmness and smoothes out lines and wrinkles.

Dermal Fillers – What can they be used for?

Wrinkles can be treated easily with dermal fillers:

  • Nose to Mouth Grooves
  • Forehead Lines
  • Frown Furrows
  • Lipstick Lines
  • Fill Acne Pits
  • Crows Feet

Dermal fillers can be used to give volume as well like:

  • Thin lips
  • Hollow cheeks to plump them out
  • Reshape of the chin or nose tip…

Dermal fillers can even be used to contour the bridge of the nose, …

What dermal fillers can’t do?

Fillers can not change the bone structure, like for example, the actual size of the nose.

Dermal Fillers - are they right for me?

Dermal fillers are ideal treatment for anyone with concerns about their lines or furrows from the nose to mouth area, 'crows feet', lines around the eyes, or lines around the mouth. Many patients also want to plump up thin lips, restoring a nice youthful look. Other patients woult want to redefine and soften the contours of their face.
The beauty of the dermal fillers is that we can give you as much or as little as you need to give you a softer, smoother face.

Dermal Fillers – How it works

Collagen is a natural protein part of skin, bones, muscles and ligaments. It gives the firmness and shape of the skin. Over time, our collagen cells reduce in number which causes the skin to lose elasticity allowing fine lines and wrinkles to develop.
Dermal fillers temporarily suspend and even reverse the signs of ageing. Following treatment, wrinkles are markedly and visibly reduced and lines in the skin, repaired. The suppleness, elasticity and tone of the skin are naturally restored, with immediately visible results.

Pain Free Lip Treatments

We can now offer the option of dental nerve blocks for pain free dermal filler lip treatments. The dental block is a safe local anaesthetic which is applied before the treatment.

Dermal Filler Types

There are a wide variety of dermal fillers available and our doctors will need to assess your skin carefully before selecting the correct filler for you.
In general, we prefer to use products free of allergy problems, using human-derived collagen dermal fillers. Because these agents do not contain any bovine collagen, no allergy testing is required prior to treatment.

Before the treatment

A mild anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area for your comfort. The dermal filler is then injected into the skin beneath the wrinkle with a very fine needle. The doctor may suggest that you have a small injection to numb the area prior to the filler injections.

Treatment

It takes 20-40 minutes depending on the number of lines and wrinkles treated. Make-up can be applied immediately after and you can go straight back to normal daily life afterwards. It is common some redness and swelling, although this usually resolves after a few hours and the results can be seen instantly.
We would like you to return to the clinic after a couple of weeks to see how you are getting on and whether you need to have some more filler injected to achieve the optimum result.

How long will a dermal fillers treatment last?

Repeat treatments are needed every six to nine months to maintain the appearance. A great advantage of dermal filler treatments is that they are long-lasting, but not permanent, which gives you the option to reassess your needs, once the initial effects have worn off.

Results

They are visible immediately, with the full effect showing once any swelling and bruising has subsided.
Risks

Avoid them if you have any dermatological disease that is active at the moment.

After treatment, sensitive reactions sometimes crop up, including itching, puffiness, and red or bumpy skin. Patients who have had cold sores in the past can suffer an outbreak.

Alternatives to fillers

Facial exercises are a non-invasive alternative, which can improve muscle tone and circulation. Giving up smoking and drinking reduces the signs of ageing. Many creams and other skin preparations are available, which claim to reduce or delay the formation of lines and wrinkles. See also Alternatives to botox
